Port Vale V Coventry at Vale Park - Match Preview

Vale wait on Jones

Port Vale continue to assess Dan Jones ahead of the visit of in-form Coventry.

Jones has missed the last three matches after suffering a groin strain during the home defeat to Wolves. Micky Adams is waiting to see if the left-back recovers sufficiently enough to be included in the squad against the club he used to manage.

Vale were beaten 3-2 by Leyton Orient last Saturday but Adams had nothing but praise for the performance of his players against the league leaders and he might be tempted to name an unchanged team.

Chris Shuker, Chris Birchall and Gavin Tomlin staked their claims for a recall with run-outs for the reserves this week, with Tomlin scoring in a 4-1 win over Oldham.

In-form Coventry will assess both Adam Barton and Billy Daniels ahead of the trip.

Barton continues to be troubled by a niggling knee injury but has still appeared on the bench in each of City's opening eight matches of the season.

Fellow midfielder Daniels sustained a hip problem while playing for the club's Under-21 side in midweek and went for a scan on Thursday, although Coventry are hoping it is nothing major.

Daniels, however, has also had to make do with a substitute role over the last three games with back-to-back victories having stretched City's unbeaten run to six games.
