Vale Throw Away Win Late On

Accrington's Andrew Procter broke Vale’s hearts with a last gasp equaliser which sealed a 2-2 draw at Vale Park on Tuesday night.

Vale started well and took the lead early on when a long throw by Anthony Griffith was cleared to Louis Dodds, who smashed home an 18-yard effort into the bottom right-hand corner of Alan Martin's net.

But the visitors struck back through Procter who powered a header against the inside of the post just before the half time whistle.

The defences cancelled each other out in the second half but the visitors got back on level terms when substitute Sam Stockley handled a shot from Procter and Phil Edwards converted the 81st minute penalty.

But despite that setback, the game should have been won when Stockley sent over a cross in the 86th minute and Tommy Fraser headed home.

But Accrington didn’t give up and equalised very late when Procter fired home a 20-yard shot that took a deflection on the way in..
