The club set a target of 5,000 tickets but soon smashed through that barrier and have now gone through 6,000 after setting an affordable price on season ticket applications.

"It was important to give something back to the fans and get them behind the team," Bratt told BBC Radio Stoke.

"We have attracted nearly 3,000 new season ticket holders and 700 children which is brilliant."

Vale averaged home gates of just over 4400 in the 2007/08 season, a campaign which saw them relegated from League One.

"Relegation probably would have meant that our support would have dropped by around 15%," said Bratt.

"It was a poorly paid area it is important to give supporters football at an affordable rate."
