Port Vale V Wolverhampton at Vale Park - Match Preview

Vale hope for Pope

Striker Tom Pope is expected to be fit for Port Vale when Wolves visit Burslem.

Pope, the Valiants top scorer last season, sat out training at the beginning of the week with a calf strain but the striker should be fit enough to retain his place in manager Micky Adams' starting line-up.

It means Adams has no new injury problems going into the game.

Vale's squad got a little stronger recently when Joe Davis (knee) and Rob Taylor (Achilles) returned to training after injury. Both players are short of fitness and are not yet ready to be considered for first-team duties.

Scott Golbourne could be in contention for his Wolves debut.

The left-back has completed a move to the Black County after Wanderers agreed an undisclosed fee with Barnsley for his services.

Leigh Griffiths comes back into contention for a starting berth having dropped to the bench for last Friday's 2-1 victory over Crawley having missed training at the latter end of last week due to a court appearance in Scotland.

Star midfielder Bakary Sako is expected to feature after Wolves rejected a bid from Championship high-fliers Nottingham Forest, but midfielder Dave Edwards (ankle) continues to miss out.
