Vale went 4 points clear at the top of the league after a historic win over 2nd place team & local rivals Shrewsbury Town.

Vale haven't been top of any league since 2006 after a bright start under Martin Foyle in League One. But they haven't FINISHED top of any division for over 50 years - back in 1959 when they were the first winners of the Fourth Division (now League Two).

Shrewsbury were the main Autumn test for this new revitalised Micky Adams team, firing on all six with 7 wins in their first 9 league matches. That's a record FIVE wins on the trot with ZERO goals conceded; nearly NINE hours without letting in a goal!

The game itself was understandably tight, but Vale were adamant that they should maintain their home advantage. Shrewsbury began to accept that a point was all they were going to get. Their main chance came at the very end when David Raven's shot bounced off both posts, heart-stopping for both sets of supporters in an unprecedented crowd of 8,443.

By then Gary Roberts had secured the points with a well hit strike from 25 yards.

Could this be Vale's season?!
