Vale's Carling Shock for Warnock's QPR

The big shock of the Carling Cup first round was at Loftus Road where Port Vale knocked out Championship leaders Queens Park Rangers.

QPR manager Neil Warnock made 5 changes, only to find his side in trouble from the start. John McCombe headed against the bar, before Justin Richards was put through by Sean Rigg to slip home on 30 minutes.

Only six minutes later and Vale were 2-0 up, Doug Loft laying on for Rigg to drive home with his left.

And it was 3-0 to Vale on 48 minutes - Justin Richards again, stabbing in an easy rebound from a Loft drive. Game over.

QPR looked like they were going to make a comeback after the break (and some words from Warnock). However, a disallowed goal from Matt Connelly on 55 minutes took the wind out of their sails - the ref had seen a push as the ball came over from a Borrowdale corner.

Rangers had a consolation goal from an Antonio German drive that went in off the post. But by then, Vale had it in the bag.
